Ickworth

Just look at that splendid rotunda! Splendid is a very appropriate word to describe Ickworth. Also opulent and just plain beautiful, even on the rainest of days. We found this stunning place on our way home from our Suffolk holiday nestled just outside of Bury St Edmunds.

The house tour starts in the basement which is a museum of sorts, stuck in the year 1936. Ickworth featured pioneering electrical systems, so of course, Dan was majorly happy. There was all sorts down there!

Then we moved on to the kitchen where there were vintage cooking demonstrations going on. It smelled divine (if not a little like an oxo stock cube!) but Louie was particularly taken with the lady making sugarpaste flowers.

The house was just splendid. We spent ages in exploring, finding comfy chairs to sit on and we oohed and ahhed about just about everything!

Between the rain showers we made our way around the gardens. There was lots to see, including a stumpery (!) a wildflower meadow and lovely lemon trees! We ended up spending much longer here than we had anticipated, we were just enjoying ourselves too much!
